Expression. Empowerment. Connection.Welcome to Nimbus Haus, a creative platform for amplifying youth voices, especially LGBTQ+ youth and youth in foster care. We believe art has the power to help people heal, and find their voice. Nimbus Haus is a volunteer organization created to teach, enable, and help youth tell their stories through painting, songwriting, and filmmaking.
We believe every child has the potential to be an artist. Whether it’s through painting, writing music, or becoming a filmmaker, our job is to give the inner artist a home where they can thrive. We believe local communities have a special responsibility to LGBTQ+ kids and kids in foster care and that, through elevating empathy, and drawing attention to organizations who are already supporting these youth, we can help to end many of the reasons for and repercussions of the trauma experienced in the foster care system and the discrimination of LGBTQ+ youth. |
Why We Work
• Expression: These kids have unique experiences that shape who they are. Through art, we seek to help them connect with their identities, share their stories, and express thoughts and feelings in creative ways.
• Empowerment: This program is designed to put the kid’s needs first. Through sharing and being listened to, kids can learn that they are worthy of love and that they matter. We seek to give kids leadership opportunities within classes and the organization.
• Connection: Many kids in foster and LGBTQ+ communities are often isolated from their families, and it can be hard to make friends, or to connect with friends who may be distant. This separation creates a trauma, and we seek to reconnect kids with themselves, their community, and each other to forge new meaningful bonds that will last a lifetime.
